mba programmeApplying for an MBA degree in South Africa is a lot like applying anywhere in the world, but there are a few specific steps that you will need to keep in mind that relate to South African students. There is no doubt that the MBA application process is not without its share of stress. After all, this course is one of the most prestigious, challenging tools in your career tool box. Needless to say, those who are serious about pursuing this path will be able to get through the challenges knowing that the rewards are worthwhile.

Before we give you some tips on what to expect from your application process, it is important to have a solid understanding of what the programme is all about, and why it is considered one of the most superior business courses. A typical programme consists of a number of modules that relate to almost every single area of business. These generally include the following:

  • Strategic and Change Management
  • Managerial Economics
  • Strategic Marketing
  • Global Political Economy
  • Leadership and Human Capital Development
  • Governance and Sustainability
  • Operations and Supply Chain Management
  • Accounting and Finance
  • Information and Knowledge Management
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Research and Statistical Methods

Students are also able to choose one of a few additional elective subjects (Public Sector Management, Healthcare Management, or Islamic Finance and Banking) to add to the subjects above. Due to the nature of the course, and the fact that applicants are expected to be fully versed in both English and Math, most business schools are only able to offer a select number of placements each year. The application is therefore an important part of whether or not you are admitted. Taking the time and effort to put together a winning application is vital if you want to succeed.
